Hacienda Sotuta de Peon
Welcome to Sotuta de Peón, hacienda viva. We are in the heart of the old henequen area of Yucatan, in the municipality of Tecoh. Accompany us on an interesting journey to the past. The portal is the hacienda, its henequen plant and its machinery running at the same pace as more than a hundred years ago, the museum house that leads to a time of splendor in history, told at every point of our journey; its magnificent garden and its wind vane that sings with the sound of the water of the cenote that is underneath the house and that connects, count the legends, with the cenote Dzul Ha, mirror of fresh and crystalline water.
The hacienda Sotuta de Peón was built at the end of the 19th century and its architecture and finishes admire the grandeur and richness that characterized an era of economic and commercial splendor in the late nineteenth and early twentieth centuries.
Sotuta de Peón, Hacienda Viva, is the product of a loving personal project of restoration initiated by Don Adolfo Lubke, already 12 years ago. The hacienda and its machinery, its house-museum, identify it as a historical monument in which we have combined the tourist and cultural value with a vocation and a tradition of service that distinguishes us as hosts.
In the main house as well as in the rooms of the villa-hotel, behind the back of the hacienda’s hull, we can admire the beautiful multicolored designs of the pasta floors, the details of masonry and its vintage ironwork that capture us in a while in which the present is mixed with the past, in which history is happening before our eyes. Each tool, every piece of the shredder, every part of the process in which the same tasks are performed for more than a hundred years, is a legacy of time.
When you walk through Sotuta de Peón, literally you travel in time, transported in the trucks, our platforms of wood pulled by mules that cross the rails paths. During the tour, when the truck advances among the campuses, the henequenales impose themselves with their forms and textures in large extensions that project in our eyes an evergreen sea, overflyed by birds and vagabond clouds.
On this walk visitors arrive to the Mayan house, a typical construction in which we are received by Don Antonio, a grandfather full of stories and legends. It is not all, at this point, after visiting the hacienda, we met the factory and all its production stations in which the plant is transformed into henequen textile fiber; you met with your family the main building and visited the museum house; time and space were transformed before your eyes when seeing that legacy of an era of life in Yucatan.
If you make the Tour to Sotuta your destination package, the terrace of our Deluxe rooms, and a soak in your private pool while sipping a wine or a henequen liquor snack is an excellent adventure final, before a gourmet dinner in your room. Of course, you are in Sotuta, hacienda viva, your house in Yucatan.
